Glorious Winkworth in Spring

In April a small group of members joined Dr Peter Herring for a guided walk around Winkworth Arboretum. What a treat! Peter’s enthusiasm for and knowledge of all the outstanding trees in their collection was marvelous. There was plenty of blossom to be found on our walk, particularly delightful were some of the specimen magnolias and bird cherry trees. We also admired the range of colours on the early Spring foliage of the acers which form part of The Bowl. Bluebells and azaleas were just starting to emerge so we would encourage you to visit Winkworth over the next few weeks. All of us appreciated Dr Wilfrid Fox’s vision in creating such a layered and diverse canopy of trees and shrubs right on our doorstep.

Garden visits are a great way of meeting people, exchanging ideas and discovering new plant combinations and design ideas. Throughout late Spring and Summer, the Society organizes several visits to beautiful gardens, many of which aren’t generally open to the public. We encourage you to join us on any of these visits (if space permits non-members are also welcome). Full details can be found on our events page including how to book. Here are our upcoming visits.
