Hedgerows, Blossoms and Kitchen Gardens

I love this time of year as the hedgerows burst into blossom and show an abundance of life with birds darting in and out. The early blossoms attract the bumblebees and each new bud emerging from the ground shows further promise of a garden full of colour, texture and movement.

I have started sowing vegetables seeds and some annuals as I am blessed with a small greenhouse that is kept frost-proof. Our recent talk with Mark Saunders on Growing Vegetables reminded me that organization, timing and patience is key with sowing seeds. I have to confess that I don’t always have the later! This year’s plan is to implement some of his suggestions such as sowing beetroot, lettuce or spinach in between rows of onions and planting courgettes near broad beans so they can fill the space once the broad beans have been harvested. I hope like me everyone finds a few nuggets of new information or useful reminders in each talk – something that will renew your enthusiasm for growing produce in your own garden.

With that in mind why not join us for our next lecture as we continue to explore ways to improve our kitchen gardens.
